FIRST EDITION IDENTIFIERS:
A.C. McClurg & Co. printed "The Outlaw of Torn" two separate times within one month. The first printing was on Feb. 19, 1927 with the second printing in March. Both states are identical in every way other than the second printing states "First Edition Printed February 1927" and "First Reprinting, March 1927" on the copyright page. The book is bound in red cloth with gold lettering on the cover and spine. The dust jacket illustration was done by J. Allen St. John. This book did not have any interior illustrations. There was a total of 6,000 copies between both printings. Grosset & Dunlap reprinted this title and like the second state above, states "First Reprinting, March 1927" on the copyright page. The Grosset & Dunlap book is red with black lettering and has their name on the spine and title page. The book below is of the first state as the copyright page lacks "First Reprinting..." (see photo on right). |
