FIRST EDITION IDENTIFIERS:

This book was first published on Sep. 27, 1919 by A.C. McClurg & Co. and has a red cloth cover with gold lettering on the front and spine. There were two printings of this book by A.C. McClurg, the first state as "W.F. Hall Printing Co., Chicago" on the bottom of the copyright page whereas the second state does not.

Otherwise the two printings are identical. J. Allen St. John provided the dust jacket illustration which was also used as the frontispiece. There are no other interior illustrations. For both the 1st and 2nd state a total of 20,000 copies were printed.

The book below is of the first printing as evidenced by "W.F. Hall" on the photo to the right.
