Burroughs Inc. first published this book on 9/15/1938 and it clearly states "First Edition" on the copyright page. As the photo shows, the book cover is blue and lettered in red. Burrough's youngest son, John Coleman Burroughs, illustrated the dust jacket and 4 illustrations.

The frontispiece illustration is in color, the only ERB book to have a color frontispiece (see photo on right). The dust jacket came in two varieties, laminated and unlaminated.

Burroughs, Inc. reprinted this book again in 1948. The color frontispiece was replaced with a black & white illustration of the dust jacket cover art. The 1948 printings have tan covers with blue lettering.
